April 2023
Winter retreats, but slowly
Spring remains an unkept promise, but, as locals are quick to say, snow on the ground
means forest fires stay down.
After looking at a white, green and brown landscape for months now, we can look
forward to a change of scenery to the brightly colored palette of greens when trees
begin to bud. More Bald Eagles hover over lakes and rivers, meaning they’re finding
open water and a few bird species are returning.
Meanwhile community organizers have kicked into high gear planning summer events
and festivals. The Chamber events committee is working on Legends and Logging Days
and the Backyard BBQ Challenge. The Downtown Business Association has posted the
band lineup for the 11th season of 2nd Street Stage. Northern Light Opera Company
has auditioned talent for “Little Shop of Horrors.” Other committees and communities in
the Heartland Lakes area are working hard on their summer events, too.
The Chamber’s new Discovery Guide shows many ways to Make a Memory anytime at
the source of the Mississippi River, at the lake, in the woods or enjoying a local
celebration. Resorts and other lodging accommodations in the Park Rapids area invite
guests to stay at the center of Heartland Lakes and will help visitors realize your dream
vacation. The Chamber website can also assist with your plans and offers a way to
order your picture-packed Discovery Guide.
It is part of life here that we are optimists at the beginning of each new season and its
progression of change. Our accommodations become your personal retreat and our
wonderful community is your home away from home. If you don’t want to wait for
summer, April can be a quiet time for a leisurely visit to see nature in transition, shop or
just relax. Or make plans to hop into Downtown Park Rapids April 6-8 for photos with
the Easter bunny and collect candy-filled Easter eggs at businesses participating in an
Egg Chase.
