Winter Sports
Contrary to expectations, it’s not winter 9 months of the year – but in Minnesota we keep ourselves entertained through the frigid days and nights.
Ice fishing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, skijoring and many other wintertime activity opportunities abound. There are places for winter camping and of course, don’t forget dog sledding!
Soaring Eagle Cross Country Ski Trails are located 8 miles north of Park Rapids. Itascatur Outdoor Activity Club built and continues to maintain and improve the trails for winter enjoyment by the public. It is a Minnesota Grant-in-aid trail system and requires a Minnesota Ski Pass for those age 16 and over. For a Minnesota Ski Pass click here: MN Ski Pass
The Forest Riders and Nevis Trailblazers Snowmobile Clubs are tasked with grooming over 400 miles of beautiful snowmobile trails in and around the Park Rapids Lakes Area. The extensive trail system links riders to Itasca State Park, the Paul Bunyan State Forest, Two Inlets State Forest, Smokey Hills State Forest, White Earth State Forest and so many other forested areas. The Heartland Trail, one of the first rail-to-trail projects in the country, links to multiple communities, area lakes, family friendly restaurants, high-quality gas stations and lodging.
