Fishing Report 4/11/2023

The thaw is on in the Park Rapids area!

The thaw is on in the Park Rapids area! Travel conditions are changing rapidly daily. Currently, snowmobiles are the best mode of transportation, but ATV travel will be possible within the week. Snow is disappearing quickly and ice cleats should be on your list of safety items. Expect shorelines to deteriorate rapidly. As for the actual fishing, the panfish action has been superb. Sunfish and crappies are beginning to move up into shallow water. Over the next several days, expect those fish to move high in the water column as melting snow runs through crevices and existing ice holes. When this occurs, expect to catch most of your fish in the upper 1/3 of the water column. Waxworms and maggots are still great choices for bait, but now is the time when fishing a jigging spoon without bait is ultra effective.
