If your into catching big panfish, then this is your week in the Park Rapids area. The biggest of the sunfish can be found where the walleyes roam. We are catching good numbers of big sunfish in the 15-25 ft range. Sunken islands close to shore that top off in the 15-25 ft. range have been the best. If the islands are shallower and weeds are growing on top—then you will have crappies nearby.
To catch the monster ‘gills simply drop a 1/16 oz. jig tipped with a small leech or a 2” Berkley Gulp twister tail and let it sink slowly to the bottom, the fish will probably catch it before it gets there as they are hanging anywhere from on the bottom up to 4 ft. off the bottom.
