You can go fishing, take a kayak around the lake, go tubing down a river, pitch a tent under the pines, stay off line for a few days or shop where you don’t have to stand in line. Whatever you choose, it’s not too late to enjoy time up north.

Traditional community festivals are on hold until next year, but the first week in August muralist Lili Payne of Minneapolis and her crew will be painting the wall at Aunt Belle’s confectionary on Main. The artwork celebrates Downtown Year-round in a design created collaboratively among the artist, a steering committee representing several community organizations and the building owner. It will be fun to watch the work progress throughout the week. All are invited to a thank you gathering for sponsors, donors, volunteers, Lili Payne and her crew at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 at the site. Weather permitting, the mural will be completed that day.

Fans of the Northern Light Opera Company are invited to a virtual concert in early August. To attend the live-stream performance, email info@northernlightopera.org to receive the link. The concert will include filmed virtual duets, solos and group number from past productions as well as newer beloved shows that performers have long wanted to sing.

The Hubbard County Historical Museum and Nemeth Art Center are open to visitors as well.

Junior Naturalist and a few other programs have resumed at Itasca State Park. Space is being limited so registration is required. To see what’s available and how to sign up go to https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/events.html?location=spk00181.

With uncertainty on many levels and the degree of stress it may be causing, you are welcome to hit pause and refresh here. The Mississippi is still flowing out of Lake Itasca, the woods and lakes still offer peace and quiet and you can still build a campfire, see the Milky Way and depend on great hospitality everywhere you go.

There’s still time to take it all in. Finding a place to stay can be as easy as a couple of clicks on the lodging pages on our website. If you want help or have questions, call our friendly staff at 800-247-0054 to learn more.
