November 2020 – Variations on a theme as late fall settles in

November 2020

Variations on a theme as late fall settles in

Snow came early this fall, catching most of us off guard with fall chores yet to be done and winter gear still stashed away. We even saw a few snowmobilers out for an early run. A few days of warm weather in the forecast may give us a chance to catch up before serious weather sets in again.

It is our tradition to celebrate four major holidays: the Firearms Deer Hunting Opener, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. You’re invited to share all of them with us.

Hunters are occupied with siting in their rifles, airing their blaze orange gear and checking the weather forecast for Nov. 7. Hunting of all kinds is one tradition that isn’t being interrupted as 2020 winds down. It’s likely, too that “hunting widows” will begin shopping for home and the holidays.

Another tradition continues with 20 vendors participating in a Hunting Opener Vendor & Craft Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 at the American Legion in Park Rapids. Admission is free with social distancing and masking protocols in place. Donations to benefit the Food Shelf will be accepted.

Mark your calendars for the Heartland Lakes Community Tree Lighting Join us on Friday, Nov. 27 for a virtual kick off the holiday season in true small town style. The event will celebrate CHI St. Joseph’s Hospice in our community and continue to be a fundraiser for Hospice to continue their good work. Santa will arrive for a brief stop to light the tree. To join in watch on Facebook Live or view the ceremony on our Downtown webcam.
