Fishing is good—if you can reach the fish. Deep snow, slush, and some water mixed in as well is making it difficult to travel on many of the area lakes. However, there are still lakes that are accessible. Crappie action has been good in the main lake “deep holes”. Fish are suspending 20-25 ft. down over 40-50 ft. of water. Small jigging spoons, jigs/plastics, and the classic crappie minnow on a green hook will catch these fish. Hungry northern pike are coming from 6-20ft depths with the best areas being close to old weed beds. A large lively minnow suspended a few feet off the bottom hooked through the dorsal fin on a #2 chartreuse hook will entice these tasty fighters. The walleye bite remains steady especially at Dawn and Dusk. Look for them just off the edge (approx. 12-18ft.) of shallow flats near 25ft.-45ft of lake bottom depths. Steep shoreline breaks with the bottom stopping at that 40-50 ft. range can also hold bottom cruising walleyes. Glow in the dark jigging spoons with a minnow head on it for scent with tempt the deeper walleyes. Lotsa Fish! Lotsa Fun!
