The key word for ice fishing across the state right now is “conditions”
Currently the Park Rapids area has favorable conditions for access, and mobility. Lakes currently have very little slush and snow with 11-16” of ice. Vehicle travel is taking place on some lakes, while ATV and snowmobiles are still being used by cautious anglers. Walleye activity has been solid in 15-20 feet on the primary break lines. Crappie action has been hot in 10-25 feet, depending on which lake. You’ll either find them on the weedlines or in the basins. Sunfish have been equally aggressive along the weedlines and weedy flats. Northern pike activity has been outstanding for both quantity and size. Vegetation is the key.
