Fishing in the Park Rapids area has been excellent over the past week.
With water temperatures in the low to mid 70’s and weed growth that’s optimal for habit, anglers should experience some of the best fishing of the summer over the 4th of July holiday. Walleye activity has been very good with anglers primarily catching fish on leeches and night crawlers or while trolling crank baits in mid depth ranges. Try a slip bobber and a leech in 16 feet of water this weekend. Panfish have been biting well in the 8-16ft range. Both sunfish and crappies have finished spawning and are aggressively feeding. Bass anglers are beginning to find largemouth and smallmouth on the primary drop offs in that 8-26ft range as well. Some nice muskie catches have come in the past week with bucktails over cabbage weeds producing best. Northern pike activity has been strong with fish being caught in a variety of depths. Do make sure to check the length limits for keeping pike as several lakes have experimental regulations and our region has special regulations that differ from the northern and southern tiers of Minnesota.
