There is decent walkable ice scattered throughout the Park Rapids area. Do your research before venturing out as no ice is ever 100% safe! However, this time of the year we are catching fish just a couple minute walk off of most shorelines.
Stick to the shallow weed beds and weed edges where the bluegills, bass, and crappies are hanging out –oh and the pike too! For the bluegills, a simple tiny jig tipped with a wax worm will do the trick. The favorite color so far is orange.
The pike are aggressive this time of the year so aggressively jigging silver and chartreuse spoons will create strikes that will pull the rod out of your hand—so hang on! We have been tipping the treble hooks with a minnow head for added scent. Try fishing in the 8-12 ft. depth range.
Lotsa Fish! Lotsa Fun!
