Captain Josh Hagemeister with BIG Crappies!

The crappies are starting to invade the shallows and the walleyes are done spawning so they will be on the chomp as well.  For the crappies find warm water and bring some bobbers, #6 hooks, and crappie minnows.  For the sunfish—the same but try wax worms on a #8 hook instead.  Focus on shallow bays, or canals on sun soaked shorelines.  These areas are often better in the afternoon vs. the morning.  An 1/8 oz jig tipped with a lively shiner minnow will get the walleyes.  Colors like white, blue,  or lime green are always good “opener” colors.  Slowly cast and retrieve or long line troll the jig through the shallow flats adjacent to spawning areas.  Work the depth ranges of 3-10ft.  And be quiet—the fish will spook easily!
