Crappies are starting to head to deeper water, after they have spent a longer than normal vacation in the shallow weeds. I am still catching Crappies in 6-10 ft of water (some never leave) but the easy fish for most people to catch are starting to filter out into the “deep holes” on most lakes if they are not there already.
Northern Pike remain active in the shallows (7-2 ft) probably due to good oxygen still found in the half alive weed beds. That’s the benefit of clear ice and no snow!
Walleyes are doing the usual. They are everywhere. Deep , shallow , and in between. Scout for “eyes” with small jigging spoons tipped with a small minnow head. Odds are if fishing muddy areas a Perch or two may jump into the bucket.
Fish deeper during the day, shallower at night.
