Fishing Report 1/23/2023

Anglers in the Park Rapids area are reporting great activity for panfish and pike, while walleye remains good, even though it has slowed from the first ice period. Those catching walleyes have found fish along primary drop offs and points, though anglers catching fewer, but larger fish, are finding them in shallow water vegetation. Time of day has become increasingly important along those drop-offs that transition from shallow to deep water, while the fish navigating shallow water weeds are targetable all day. Panfish anglers are seeing similarities; deep water, basin relative fish are offering the most activity in the hours surrounding sun-up and sundown, and hike the shallow water panfish in 6-12 feet are biting throughout the day and become relatively dormant after dark. Northern pike have been most active, at least for larger fish, in shallow water, 4-12 feet.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the American Legion Park Rapids Fishing Derby on February 4th on Fish Hook Lake. With $125,000 in prizes, anglers have a chance to win tons of prizes! More information can be found at Americanlegionderby.com
