Heading into March, snowmobilers and cross country skiers defy cabin fever and embrace what’s left of winter. Trail grooming continues and the Heartland Lakes area includes hundreds of miles of beautiful trails to ride and ski.

 

Walleye, pike and bass fishing season has ended in this part of the state, but avid anglers can still enjoy excellent pan fishing. After days on end of subzero temps, Ice thickened and remains safe for a while at least. Caution is always advised so contact local bait dealers if you’re not sure where to set up. The Visitor Center lobby at Itasca State Park is open and the wonders of experiencing the park’s lakes, trails and northern forest never disappoints. Local beverage and dining establishments are already planning a taste of another culture’s traditions around the March 17th weekend when wearin’ the green will keep Leprechauns at bay.
