Minnesota Fishing Guide Service’s Fishing Report 4.11.19

PerchThere is still a bit of ice fishing to be had in the Park Rapids area—but not for long.

We have been focusing on perch and other panfish like crappies and bluegills. And of course the accidental bass or pike is caught (must be released—season closed) so that adds to the fun as well. Shallow water (6-10) flats with new weed growth is key to finding bunches of fish this time of year.

On many occasions, you can sight fish by looking down the hole and spot the fish as they cruise right under the ice. Look inside old bulrush beds as well—sometimes only 3-4 ft deep. Small jigs tipped with micro plastics, waxies, or spikes will catch all the fish.  I would recommend walking out at this point and stay clear of any current area.
