The ice is firming up nicely in the Park Rapids area but beware of thin spots due to current, geese, ducks, or wind!
We have been sticking to the smaller lakes and cashing in on panfish—mainly Bluegills and Crappies. There have also been some nice bonus Walleyes mixed in with the “pannies” as well.
Tip- ups set in the shallow weed beds have been icing Pike as well. Concentrate on the weed flats in the 6-10ft depth range using a lively minnow hooked on a chartreuse hook just below the dorsal fin set about 2’ off of the bottom.
The Bluegills are roaming these shallow weedy flats as well—so cover some water and drill some holes to keep up with them. Using small “bug jigs” tipped with a spike or waxie will do the job!
