The current questions circulating around the Park Rapids area is whether or not anglers can still get out ice fishing and if the lakes will be ice free by opener.
Anglers should not expect to get out ice fishing anymore from a safety standpoint. As for lakes being ice free by the walleye opener on May 14, many will be but it’s all contingent upon the weather. Smaller bodies of water will be open, but some of the large lakes may (or may not) have a few floating sheets of ice. At this point it is difficult to speculate, but the forecast is looking favorable for an ice free, fishing filled opener!
