Where Beauty & Nature Intersect

Mother Nature turns a page

Fish Hook River - 1Fortunately for those downstream, our snow-covered fields and forests and ice-covered lakes are melting gradually.  Small pools attract swans, geese and ducks in places where you don’t expect to see them. Spring is teasing us, but will continue to reveal her true nature soon enough.

The Hubbard County Coalition of Lake Associations (COLA) and partners are planning a new event this spring. Chip Leer will be the featured guest speaker at the Park Rapids Lakes Area Fishing Expo from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 12 at Riverside United Methodist Church. Leer is a 2019 Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame inductee, fishing guide, outdoors communicator, product promoter and developer as well as the stage and TV host for Cabela’s Walleye Tour. He will speak at 6:50 p.m. Special guests are Jason Durham, Brian “Bro” Brosdahl, Jason Freed, Paul Nelson and Kev Jackson. There will be a panel discussion and expo open house style gathering for those attending this free event to learn about the latest equipment and how to protect our fishing resources.

Park Rapids Downtown businesses invite you to think spring and have fun with a Park Rapids history trivia quiz. A Spring Refresh promotion will launch April 26 so when it’s time to refresh your home, cabin or wardrobe or stock up on fun things for the kids or grandkids to do this summer, be sure to head downtown.

Heartland Lakes area event organizers have kicked into high gear planning summer events and festivals. The Chamber events committee is working on the Minnesota Bike Opener May 18 and summer events. The Downtown Business Association has scheduled the bands for 2nd Street Stage. Northern Light Opera Company has auditioned talent for “The Drowsy Chaperone.” Summer’s calendar is filling fast.

The Chamber’s new Discovery Guide shows many ways to Catch a Memory anytime at the source of the Mississippi River, at the lake, in the woods or enjoying a local celebration. Resorts and other lodging accommodations in the Park Rapids area invite guests to stay at the center of this extraordinary region and will help visitors realize their dream vacation. The Chamber website can also assist with your plans and offers a way to order your picture-packed Discovery Guide.

It is part of life here that we are optimists at the beginning of each new season and its progression of change. Our accommodations become your personal retreat and our wonderful communities are your home away from home. If you don’t want to wait for summer, April can be a quiet time for a leisurely visit to see nature in transition, shop or just relax.

If you need help planning a memorable and affordable visit, need more information about the area or have questions, call our friendly staff at 800-247-0054 to learn more. – LuAnn Hurd-Lof
