Fishing and Trail Report – January 14, 2013

Weekly Fishing Report
Submitted by Smokey Hills Outdoor Store
The ice conditions are great on the Park Rapids area lakes. Most lakes have at least 16″ of good ice; cars and trucks are driving out on many of them. The biggest walleyes are being caught early morning from 6am to 8am in 16 to 22 feet of water. Kenkatch Tackle’s “Boss Jig” tipped with a minnow head has been the hottest lure on the ice. The Crow Wing chain of lakes as well as Eagle and Island lakes have all been producing crappies every night. Find them in 25 to 35 feet of water and catch them using a Skandia™ tungsten ice jig tipped with a wax worm or crappie minnow. Fish Hook lake has been giving up some really nice pike in 8 to 12 feet of water. Stop by the store for more detailed and lake specific ice and fishing reports. We look forward to serving you soon!

Trail Report
Submitted by Forest Riders Snowmobile Club
All trails will be groomed this week and with the 3″ of snow we received last night, it will be great riding. We have a 6 inch base on the trails and this weekend’s weather is predicted to be nice for the outdoors!

Report from the Nevis Trailblazers Snowmobile Club
Hello the Nevis area received about 3-4 inches of snow last night. That was a much needed snow fall. The trails took a beating this last weekend with the warm weather and the heavy traffic. They are talking a chance for more snow the for the couple days so we will hope. We continue to groom trying to keep the trails in the best shape possible. Stay tuned for more updates as the snow falls.
