Where Beauty & Nature intersect

June Catch a Memory

When we celebrated the Governor’s Fishing Opener here in May, the activities shed light on the fact that the greater Park Rapids area remains home to nearly 100 family resorts. Resorts, together with other lodging, including motels and bed and breakfast inns, offer visitors an abundance of choices of places to stay and amenities to enjoy.

The Chamber’s Discovery Guide can help you decide what location will give your family, extended family or group the north woods experience you’ve been dreaming about all winter. And while you’re here, pick up a copy of the book, Our Seasons, the story of how family owned resorts have added to the rich fabric of life in the Park Rapids area since the turn of the 20th Century.
As the summer solstice nears, there is plenty of daylight to play on the water. The area’s hundreds of lakes and rivers invite fishing, pontoon picnics, canoeing, kayaking, tubing, water skiing and other activities.
If water sport isn’t your thing, there are hundreds of other ways to immerse yourself in the north woods: biking, hiking, ATV riding, exploring parks and trails. At Itasca State Park, you can walk across the headwaters of the mighty Mississippi River as it flows out of Lake Itasca on its 2,552-mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico. Park naturalist programs invite learning more about the area’s flora and fauna, history and geological wonders.
The Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber website calendar guides you to local events and festivals. Summer theater and other live entertainment are available, too. You will find unique shopping and great places to eat morning, noon and night.
The free music series, 2nd Street Stage, invites you to downtown Park Rapids Thursdays, June 20 through Aug. 22 for live bands, a beer garden and family friendly activities. Go to www.parkrapidsdowntown.comfor times and to learn more about the bands who will be playing.
If you have never stayed here for a 4th of July weekend, a slice of Americana awaits with an old-fashioned parade, band concert on the river, unforgettable fireworks display and much more. Professional Bull Riding brings thrills, chills and spills to the arena July 4, 5 and 6.

The Park Rapids area welcomes you any time. If you need help planning a memorable and affordable visit, need more information about the area or have questions, call our friendly staff at 800-247-0054 to learn more.
